Mississippi basketball coach Andy Kennedy pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault following an incident that occurred early Thursday morning in Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
The paper reported Kennedy was charged with assaulting a cab driver and that he was shouting racial slurs at the time of the alleged assault.
Attorney Mike Allen told the paper Kennedy "emphatically denies this and emphatically denies making any racial slurs."
Kennedy, 40, has been head coach at Ole Miss since spring 2006. He is in Cincinnati for his team's SEC/Big East Invitational game against Louisville.
Kennedy previously served four seasons as an assistant coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats and one as their interim head coach. He has topped the 20-win mark in each of his three full seasons as a head coach.
